Con and Pam Dowding came to Devon in 1987 to Farm, having already established and run a successful Pet Shop in Sussex.

Conrad holds the Diploma in Pet Shop Management from the British Veterinary Association/ Pet Trade Association, and was involved in the setting up and tutoring for the new City and Guilds Diploma in Pet Shop Management It is from this background knowledge of the Pet Trade that has enabled PPE to grow.

Having been on both sides of the counter, as it were, they both know the problems and demands of the retail trade.

P.P. Enhancements is a family Business launched in 1996, by Conrad and Pamela Dowding. Based in Devon, it started out manufacturing collars, leads and harness etc. for the Pet Trade. Initially it was decided to distribute these through existing local wholesalers, however their initial reaction was limited. It was then decided that as they were a new company in Devon, and the name of PPE was unknown, perhaps it would be best if they marketed their products direct, until such time as they had established themselves. The initial reaction to their products from the pet trade was excellent, so much so that as they carried on trading, they were asked for other lines, such as brushes, combs, dog beds coats' toys etc. These were added as demand grew, until now they have expanded to carry most accessories suitable for the pet trade; this with their manufacturing base has enabled them to meet most customers demands.

To date they have moved premises twice, first based in Tinhay Industrial Estate in Lifton, Devon, which they soon outgrew. They have now moved a short step across the border to Pennygillam Industrial Estate in Cornwall.  Here they have larger premises and are able to offer a more comprehensive service to all Trade Customers.  Customers are welcome to call and collect their own goods, but it is best to telephone first to make sure that it is convenient.

Recently they have added a range of braid collars and leads to their range, covering fifteen assorted colours, plus four reflective these 9mm braid products have proved extremely popular, especially as being manufactured on the premises, they can be made to customers requirements. They also now stock a range of Dog Chews and Wild Bird feeds such a fat balls, dried mealworms, and fat cakes.

All orders are dealt with promptly, and dispatched either by their own vans, by post, or by local carriers, based in the same complex.

It is great sadness that we report the death of Pam Dowding, Partner and Co-Founder of P.P. Enhancements from Breast Cancer on the 28th. January, 2010. Taken before her time, she will be sorely missed. She was an inspiration to us all.
